Training Course: Lab Associates
This program is for graduate students (primarily in philosophy) who want to acquire some basic knowledge of psychology and neuroscience, including experimental methods and data analysis. The goal is to place graduates of the program in a Brain and Mind Institute (BMI) lab to further their training in and ability to contribute to empirical research. Many graduates of the program have gone on to co-author scientific papers. This is highly recommended for any students with an interest in philosophy of science.

Where? 

In the Seminar Room of the Rotman Institute of Philosophy, at the Western Interdisciplinary Research Building (WIRB).

When?

Once per academic year. The next course will probably be delivered during the Fall Term 2020.

Training Course: Introduction to Cognitive Studies
This training course is open to any graduate student interested in philosophy of cognitive science and neuroscience. We will review the development of cognitive science from its beginnings to now. The aim is, as always, to acquire the skills to read the relevant literature and to engage with contemporary debates. The plan is to meet once per week during the Winter 2020 semester on Wednesdays at 1:00 PM in the Rotman conference room.

When?

In the Seminar Room of the Rotman Institute of Philosophy, at the Western Interdisciplinary Research Building (WIRB).

When?

The course was being delivered during Winter Term 2020 but it has been stopped due to Covid-19. It will be resumed during summer.

Training Course: Introduction to Dynamical Systems Theory
This training course is open to any student (graduate or undergraduate) interested in learning the fundamentals of dynamical systems theory. Our main goal will be to understand the theoretical basis of dynamical systems and their application to understanding behavior and cognition. The aim is to acquire the skills to read the relevant literature and to engage with contemporary debates.

In the Seminar Room of the Rotman Institute of Philosophy, at the Western Interdisciplinary Research Building (WIRB).

When?

Reading Group: Philosophy and Cognitive Science
This reading group is open to anyone (student, faculty, or other) interested in the intersection between cognitive science and philosophy.

Where?

Currently in Zoom. Usually, in the Seminar Room of the Rotman Institute of Philosophy, at the Western Interdisciplinary Research Building (WIRB).

When?

Biweekly and perennial. During Winter Term 2020, we are meeting on Thursdays at 2.00 PM every other week.
